The Thean Hock Keong Temple in Bagan Ajam is the only Malaysian temple that enshrines martial god General Zhao Zi Long as the main deity, who was a military general in the Three Kingdoms era. The temple came about when Chinese migrants sailed South from China and landed in the small fishing village of Bagan Ajam, where they subsequently erected a makeshift temple to seek spiritual protection. This temple has been built for around 146 years.

In 1993, Wensi Heritage was appointed by the temple committee for the reconstruction of the temple into a double-storeyed building. The ground floor was converted into a car park and function rooms, forming an apparent plinth for the temple that was relocated to the upper floor. The new temple is a three-bayed structure with an annex to its left. Its front yard houses three hexagonal structures, including two pavilions and a joss furnace. The roof of the temple features an expressive san chuan central ridge that breaks the supposedly monolithic roof ridge into three smaller ridges, each with pointed ‘swallow tail’ ends which were then decorated with dragon sculptures to produce a rich skyline.
